/// THE WRITER’S BENCH VZW ///
The Writer’s Bench vzw is a creative arts organisation designed to present a colourful blend of arts including: music, spoken word, poetry, film and visual art. The name [The Writer’s Bench] comes from the 149th Street Grand Concourse subway station in The Bronx, New York where graffiti artists [writers] used to meet from the 1970s until the late 1980s. Writers from all over the city congregated at the bench to meet, make plans, sign black books and watch art on the passing trains. In short; The Writer’s Bench is a place where artists meet. The purpose of The Writer’s Bench is to bring artists together, crossing cultures, countries and creative genres. For this we've created unique performance concepts, which offer a modern way for people to experience art. The Writer’s Bench began as an independent arts project in 2006 and became an official nonprofit organisation in 2009. Our live events are presented in various European cities. ///OUR CONCEPTS///
BUT IS IT JAZZ? ‘When was the last time a jazz concert made you want to pogo like a lunatic or made you laugh out loud?’ but is it jazz? is a live concept event presenting the best in adventurous jazz influenced music and beyond. CO-HOOTS Derived from the word Cahoots [meaning: questionable collaboration; secret partnership], CO-hoots is an exciting concept where we commission multi genre collaborations. The key is that the artists are previously unknown to each other and come together for unique one-off collaborative creations. The magical results are presented live. WISH LIST - the art of social conscience A series of talks, films and performances with notable artists and creative figures who use their creative platform to highlight social issues that affect us all. TWB TV Our online TV channel showcases ongoing short film reportages of our live events. |
